Andy Heyward began his career in 1977 working at Hanna Barbera as a writer under the tutelage of the great and legendary Joe Barbera. His first series was YOGI’S ALL STAR LAFF A LYMPICS, which enabled him to write for all the classic HB characters including Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, Huckelberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Snagglepuss, among others.
In 1981, Andy left Hanna Barbera to work in France at a small animation company called DIC AUDIOVISUAL, which he eventually bought and relocated in Los Angeles, growing it to the largest independent producer of animation in the world. Over the next 25 years, Andy was responsible for creating and producing over 5,000 half hour episodes of animated television.
Those include household names such as INSPECTOR GADGET, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, HELLO KITTY, REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, DENNIS THE MENACE, HEATHCLIFF, CARE BEARS, RAINBOW BRITE, M.A.S.K, G.I. JOE, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, THE NEW ARCHIES, TEDDY RUXPIN, MADELINE, LIBERTYS KIDS, SPEED RACER X, OUR FRIEND MARTIN, THE WACKY WORLD OF TEX AVERY, WHERE ON EARTH IS CARMEN SANDIEGO, WHERE’S WALDO, STREET SHARKS, CAPTAIN PLANET, SUPER MARIO BROTHERS, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, THE KARATE KID, PRO STARS, SWAMP THING, NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, ALF, POPPLES, THE LITTLES, and many others. Andy sold DIC to the Walt Disney Company in 1993, staying to manage it for them, eventually buying the company back in 2000 and finally selling it again in 2008 at which point, he started a new animation company.
Today at Genius Brands International, he produces a number of animated programs whose goal is to enrich as well as entertain. They range from SECRET MILLIONAIRES CLUB with an animated Warren Buffett teaching kids financial literacy amidst comedic adventures, to THOMAS EDISON’S SECRET LAB, which promotes science fun with kids.
Along the way Andy has won EMMYs, HUMANITAS AWARDS, CABLE ACE AWARDS, CARTOONS ON THE BAY STUDIO OF THE YEAR AWARDS, KIDSCREEN HALL OF FAME, and other recognitions. Andy is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The International TV Academy, the Producers Guild, and BAFTA. He serves on the board of directors of Cedars Sinai Medical Center, the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and the Paley Center for Media. Andy was the commencement speaker for the UCLA College of Humanities, his alma mater, where he won the Alumnae Achievement Award.
Iraj Paran is an Emmy Award winner animation artist whose career at Hanna-Barbera Studio has spanned over 30 years.
He began working as a Background Artist in the studio’s Background Department.
In 1970, three years after Bill Hanna the Co-founder of Hanna-Barbera hired him, Iraj was promoted and became Art Director in charge of the studio’s Art Department. He became Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera’s “right hand”, designing presentation artwork for “pitching” shows to the television networks.
Iraj was responsible for all Graphics and Title Design, and comprehensive coordination of art for production, cel art, licensing and merchandising, publicity art, home video, and retail stores. He also did quality control to maintain the integrity of all the Hanna-Barbera characters.
Iraj designed and created various H-B Titles and logos including the Hanna-Barbera’s signature logo which is recognized worldwide.
He worked directly with Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera and Iwao Takamoto on numerous special projects for the studio. Iraj was instrumental in Hanna-Barbera’s Cel Art Division.
He made personal appearances at various art galleries and Hanna-Barbera’s retail stores across the country discussing the process of animation for Hanna-Barbera fans of all ages.
Iraj traveled with Mr. Hanna on various marketing and promotional trips to educate and introduce products to licensees, domestically and overseas.
Iraj Paran’s steady and uninterrupted employment at Hanna-Barbera continued for over 30 years. He also has worked on various projects as a freelance artist for Cartoon Network, Disney Consumer Products, Buena Vista Home Video, MGM Animation and Saban Entertainment, etc.
Joe has been in the animation art cel and collectible business for 15 years…He has represented a variety of products and catalogues including:
